Xbox 360 To Beat PS3 Outside Japan, $100 Price Drop?
By Joel Barish Everybody's got predictions Everybody's been predicting and polling like mad since the end of E3, and the majority of the talk has been about Sony's PS3 and Nintendo's Wii. Talk about the Xbox 360 is muted; it's simply less fun to wax on about a known entity as opposed to products that have yet to be released. And here at Xbox Today, that makes us sad. But Rick Sherland of Goldman Sachs has turned our frowns upside down today, to use a painful and tired phrase. The analyst raised his Xbox 360 unit estimates and revenues for fiscal year 2007. But even better, the analyst con cojones had the following to say, by way of The Mercury News: We believe Xbox may outsell Sony's PS 3 outside of Japan. We have also model(ed) an assumed $100 price cut on Xbox 360 by E3 next year to further drive market share." Sherlund says he believes Microsoft could become profitable in the current calendar year on the Xbox 360 business. That commentary is more positive on Microsoft than any other analyst so far.
